Well after slaving away at the old salt mine yesterday I raced home and got Addie off the bus from school.  We then took off to Parkhill Co-op with Bear (our Golden Doodle) in the back of the truck, and got our 12 laying hens.  Had a great trip there with Addie - told her that she had to hold all 12 hens all the way home and not to let them poop in my truck. LOL Sure had her thinking!
Well we got them back safe and sound and got them into there new home.  As I was taking them out of the crate they came in they got a little nervous with me in the coop.  All it took was one to start flying around the coop and then they all were.  Addie was holding the door closed and as soon as one of the hens hit the door she was gone like a scared cat! LOL  3 got out and Carlos (our rooster) who was out of his coop at the time instantly jumped on one of the hens.  Addie screamed out "Daddy I think Carlos is trying to kill the chicken - He's on top of her and she is squawking" LOL  I raced over and nocked Carlos off of her before he could do any damage. LOL  Put Carlos in a empty horse stall and then proceeded to catch the 3 hens and get them back in the coop.  Talk about a hectic few minutes.

Leanne's Uncle Doug brought his Quarter horse over to spend a few days here and see how he likes it.  So we now have a beautiful horse using the stalls.  Never thought it would feel so good to see a horse in the barn.

Well we've had a busy week ... Addie off to a new school, Graydon in a new daycare and Leanne starting a new job.  It was a hectic crazy week and I'm glad it's over!  Over the weekend I got the Coop for the laying hens started, Made my witches brew for the post powder beetles I have in the barn, and made a trip to Wheatley to grab my tool box and a few other items still in the shop.  Needless to say I have a lot of stuff to still pack and bring up here and with October fast approaching I'm running outta time.

Here's a Few Pics's.

My Witches brew for Post Powder Beetles - 1 Gallon Antifreeze concentrate, 3.5lbs of Boric Acid, and 4.5lbs of Borax.  Bring to 260 degrees F and you have a solution you can mix 50/50 with water and spray for any nasty wood eating insect.

Life On The New Farm

Well we'll give this another try! It has been along time since I've tried to keep a blog but who know's maybe this time it'll stick.
Leanne and I have moved to a small 3 acre hobby farm outside Zurich, Ontario.  We have an old Century farm house that has been nicely renovated and has all the charm to keep Leanne(or the Warden as I call her-LOL) happy.  The property also boosts an old Bank Barn which has been slowly brought back by it's last couple owners.  The last owner installed 4 nice horse stalls and a tack room in the main part of the barn.  The back part of the barn has 4 other pens.  I have just built a chicken coop in the main part across from the stalls.  I will post pics next post.
This past weekend we celebrated my son Graydon's 2nd birthday and the farm's first members.  2 Berkshire piglets which were born June 6th.  The Warden named them Curly and Moe. We also got 2 Plymouth Chickens - a Rooster and Hen named Carlos and Amy.  The Warden's brother gave them to us as they couldn't stand the crowing from Carlos at 5:30 in the morning.  I have 12 Laying hens coming next week so needless to say we will have quite the barn for the winter.

I'll keep you posted on the trials and tribulations that we encounter along the way!
